Apparently big chunks of the DOJ are still at work, but the status of smaller federal LE agencies is largely unknown, at least to me. Given that most would be considered essentially to life, safety and public security, I'm guessing that most remain on duty, if essentially reduced to watching over largely empty lands and buildings.
The incident at the Capitol yesterday was probably the first time people became aware of the US Capital Police, with a force of over a 1.000 officers covering 70 plus building. Several news reports stated that they werent being paid. I dont know how accurate that is; whether paychecks have stopped, and back pay will be issued after the shutdown. That potentially sucks from a tax and withholdings perspective.
One particular newscaster, notorious for chronic ignorance when it comes to how America works, was questioning why the woman was shot even though she didn't have a gun. Would any student who has extra time on their hands please explain Graham v Connor and Tenn. v Garner to him, and point out how lethal a car can be?
Contact Information
NRTI as we knew it is no more, and I don't know what will happen in the future. Technically, I'm still employed by the College, though am enjoying a paid hiatus, and working on everything I couldn't work on when I was spending 70 hours a week running the Program, like cleaning up from the tornado that hit, what, 7 years ago now? I'm also commissioned with a nearby county agency, actually answering to one of the more popular instructors, so I'm still trying to keep my hand in.
I'll continue to post information and news from grads and friends, and also want to keep current with LE news and references.
My College phone and e-mail are pretty much out of service, so I'll be setting up yet another account , so we can stay in touch.
