In my opinion this guy is in general a bonehead, but if any Chief or Sheriff has a policy contrary to this, they are equally boneheaded. Being Ready is what we do, 24/7/365. I also don't know what kind of relationship he has with his rank and file or labor units, but I can also see a number of cops howling if they were required to carry off duty, and wanting danger pay or time x .05 or a zillion dollar liability waiver or some such nonsense. I'm interested in knowing if his intention is for them to be carrying the agency rifle off-duty also. The first time one gets stolen with a Deputy's Z28 while it's parked at a Hooters should be interesting.
Must be a slow news cycle for Sheriff Joe. And I'm not wearing Thunderwear to bed, so that 24 hour rule is out. Maybe 20.
Sheriff Joe Arpaio: Deputies to carry weapons 24 hours per day

NRTI as we knew it is no more, and I don't know what will happen in the future. Technically, I'm still employed by the College, though am enjoying a paid hiatus, and working on everything I couldn't work on when I was spending 70 hours a week running the Program, like cleaning up from the tornado that hit, what, 7 years ago now? I'm also commissioned with a nearby county agency, actually answering to one of the more popular instructors, so I'm still trying to keep my hand in.
I'll continue to post information and news from grads and friends, and also want to keep current with LE news and references.
My College phone and e-mail are pretty much out of service, so I'll be setting up yet another account , so we can stay in touch.
