This applies to us - if you are in LE or any of the emergency services, you age in dog years. Little did I know that becoming a full-time trainer would be physically twice as hard as being a full time worker bee cop. I spend 90% of my time in from of a keyboard, and 10% having to get up and perform perfectly, on demand, and better than the 21-year-olds in the class, or I have no credibility as a mentor. I have the mentality of a 14 year old stuck in the body of a 50 year old that's in the shape of an 80 year old. Deuster et al have a chapter on "Maintaining the High Mileage SEAL" that has a lot of good info in their USN SEAL Nutrition and Fitness book.
I'm not sure I share the authors' view on the low value of stretching. It has to be done properly, no dynamic stretches, but I'll continue to stretch, if for no other reason than all the popping, crunching and other sound effects.

NRTI as we knew it is no more, and I don't know what will happen in the future. Technically, I'm still employed by the College, though am enjoying a paid hiatus, and working on everything I couldn't work on when I was spending 70 hours a week running the Program, like cleaning up from the tornado that hit, what, 7 years ago now? I'm also commissioned with a nearby county agency, actually answering to one of the more popular instructors, so I'm still trying to keep my hand in.
I'll continue to post information and news from grads and friends, and also want to keep current with LE news and references.
My College phone and e-mail are pretty much out of service, so I'll be setting up yet another account , so we can stay in touch.
