Now that the previous class has been released back into their natural habitats, and all I have to do is finish up mounds of their paperwork, the attention switches to you. You will be members of Ranger Academy Program 23, the short form of which is RAP23. Commit that to memory. You will also have a class number to be assigned at a later date by the state of Ohio, and an individual unit number which will be assigned on the first day of class.
Information regarding physical exams and background checks has been mailed out and is likely in your hands, unless you are living at McMurdo Base. Failure to comply with deadlines will be interpreted as a decision not to attend. Any questions or concerns about either need to be brought to my attention sooner rather than later.
If you haven't started a workout regime, you are already behind the curve. Some of the requirements regarding the National Park Service fitness requirements you have seen is not as precise as I'd like. I recommend going to the Physical Techniques Division Requirement Documents page and review the Physical Efficiency Battery and checking your age/gender Standards. They, in addition to the Ohio fitness requirements, must be met during an assessment held in the closing days of the Academy. You will be tested on the 2nd day to establish a baseline and plot a fitness plan.
Contact Information
NRTI as we knew it is no more, and I don't know what will happen in the future. Technically, I'm still employed by the College, though am enjoying a paid hiatus, and working on everything I couldn't work on when I was spending 70 hours a week running the Program, like cleaning up from the tornado that hit, what, 7 years ago now? I'm also commissioned with a nearby county agency, actually answering to one of the more popular instructors, so I'm still trying to keep my hand in.
I'll continue to post information and news from grads and friends, and also want to keep current with LE news and references.
My College phone and e-mail are pretty much out of service, so I'll be setting up yet another account , so we can stay in touch.
