Better late than never, but I understand that this will be SIG's venture into interchangeable backstraps, such as most other manufacturers did, ahem, a little while ago.
I haven't handled one, and if it is anything like my Elite it will be a year before it actually becomes available, but it will definitely make the Classic series more accessible to shooters with smaller hands.
Theoretically, the NPS through RM9 seems to accept all of the P Series Classic duty pistols in 9mm, .40 S&W and .45 ACP, so this handgun might be streetable without a policy re-write.
I have no idea if the new stocks effect armorer support, or if there are significant parts differences. It is somewhat interesting that they went the normal DA/SA configuration instead of DAO or DAK, which leads me to believe that there is probably a secondary backstory about a larger agency wanting to stay with this platform, but requiring the ability to fit users of different sizes.
The SIG line-up will be interesting to watch in the next couple years. Assuming the engineers got it right and that there aren't any abnormal flaws in execution, this model essentially makes the "normal" Ps almost obsolete. It also may impact the P250, as agencies that may have considered going with it to get sizing options can now stay with the Classic series and avoid transition training, new holsters and support equipment, and worst of all, open bidding that might have brung entirely different makes and models into play.
Now the wait starts for the rainbow titanium nitride version with gold controls and pearl grips.
Contact Information
NRTI as we knew it is no more, and I don't know what will happen in the future. Technically, I'm still employed by the College, though am enjoying a paid hiatus, and working on everything I couldn't work on when I was spending 70 hours a week running the Program, like cleaning up from the tornado that hit, what, 7 years ago now? I'm also commissioned with a nearby county agency, actually answering to one of the more popular instructors, so I'm still trying to keep my hand in.
I'll continue to post information and news from grads and friends, and also want to keep current with LE news and references.
My College phone and e-mail are pretty much out of service, so I'll be setting up yet another account , so we can stay in touch.
